Simply gorgeous. One of my wedding photos is scaled just like this and it's my favorite picture from our whole lot. It's kind of lovely how Howl and Calcifer are dwarfed by the night sky. You did such an amazing job on the sky.
I'm so in love with this picture, it has to be one of the best pieces of Ghibli fanart I have seen. You captured my favorite scene from one of my favorite movies so perfectly, with that splendid night sky...
oh my god that sky is soooo pretty afgdfjhg *u* the colors make me want to touch it even though I can't haha but omg I could stare at it for hours asdfhd ;u; I wish I could fave your entire gallery all at once actually, I absolutely love your art but I don't want to spam you too much ahaha
if you don't mind my asking, how do you draw skies like that? o: what program and tools do you use? (brush, marker, pen?) do you use multiple layers or just one? do you normally start by adding in the stars or do you add in the colors first? do you normally work on the entire thing at once, gradually, or in small sections? do you use textures? so sorry for the question overflow ahaha;;;; I'm just curious ouo
and gosh umm it's kinda hard to explain with words but I'll try my best!!
I use SAI for most of my bgs! And I use the marker, pen, brush, and watercolour tools in basically their default settings, though for the brush tool it's set to bristle or something...
and I do the bg all on one layer (I also do all the clothing on one layer, all the hair on a separate layer, etc.).
ummm for night skies I put down like a dark blue usually for a base colour. Then I just blob on random colours with the pen tool and blend with watercolour, and add more colours and blend more... detailed?? with the marker/brush tool.
Same goes for day skies, I just lay down a base colour (I think it was pink in this case?? don't really remember lol), use the pen to blob some other colours down and... blend...
I add the stars in at the very end on photoshop bc I don't know if there's a way to put down many dots at once on sai.... anyways on photoshop I just take like a 2px hard brush, set it to scatter and randomly put stars down lol
And I work on pretty large canvases so I usually zoom out and messily do the entire bg all at once, and then at the end I'll zoom in and fix some things haha...
I use a grunge texture for the paper effect, but that's about it..
hope this.... kinda... helped... lol sorry I'm not the best with explaining;;;
Ahh that's really good hehe!! I also encourage looking at pictures of nebulas and galaxies to get a better sense of colour? like obviously our skies don't... look... like nebulas but yeah I personally like to make my skies more similar to them ; u ;b
and whoa that was a really fast reply, thanks a bunch for taking the time to write all that out fsfdhgf ;u; I'm not the best at explaining either haha, don't worry about it it's really hard to explain art in words I think? but I understand what you're saying and it helps a lot so thank you! ;u;
